Today's featured plant is the common comfrey (Symphytum officinale) zone 3-9. This is a plant that has been used for 1000s of years for many purposes. This is a perennial plant can easily handle our winters. I was able to get mine in a trade from a neighbor who has a comfrey patch that could easily be over 100 years old. Comfrey can be made into a tea in moderation as well as made into salve (please research the safety first). It can be used in the garden in many ways: as a fertilizing tea, compost, as a weed blocker, as erosion control and has many other uses. This is a great plant to put outside your garden along the edge to control weeds. It is also great for Honey bees and can be grown in shade or full sun and it can be used with animals on the farm. Here is a great blog post about that. There are many types of varieties of comfrey ranging from seedless, some made not to spread and some designed for a specific purpose.
