No light for the chickens

Here at Mulberry Apiary, our chickens are more than chickens. They are our pets. Because of this, we want to keep them as healthy as long as possible. God did not design the chickens to lay in low light conditions. They; like all creation, need a break. To allow that break, we do not light the chickens with artificial light. Because of this, they do not lay eggs from December-March. This will increase their ability to lay eggs into an older age. A few years ago we had an 11 year old chicken who was still laying eggs every month. Happy, healthy, and natural- this is our goal for chicken husbandry.
